On Sunday, October 11, 2009, Mia had her first try of real baby food! Her first meal was a couple tbsps of pureed sweet potatoes....and she LOVED them! It was the most adorable thing to watch her eat, as she opened her mouth wide for the next bite and slapped her hand on the high chair table demanding more as soon as she would finish a mouthful. We gave her sweet potatoes for 3 days (as recommended when trying any new food for the first time), and then on Wednesday we tried homemade organic pureed pumpkin (courtesy of Mamere, who lovingly prepared many little containers of garden grown, organic vegetables - sweet potatoes, pumpkin, squash and carrots!). Mia liked the pumpkin as well, maybe not so much as the sweet potatoes but enough to finish 3 generous tbsps of it! Tomorrow we will try a 3rd new food and it will be bananas! I'm so excited to see her reaction to fruit! Matt and I are having such a good time feeding her, it's such a funny experience!
Her feeding schedule is as follows: nursing first thing in the morning, then 2 hours later she will have 3-4 tbsps of rice cereal (soon to be mixed with fruit when we start her on those). Then 2 hours after the rice cereal she has a 8 0z bottle of breastmilk combined with formula, then for lunch she has a few tbsps of whatever vegetable she is having that day (today is pumpkin) and then 2 hours after that another 8 oz bottle. Then for dinner another serving of vegetable (some times I am mixing the veggie with a little rice cereal). Usually she will have another two nursing or bottle feedings at some point in the evening as well, at least one before she goes to sleep for the night.
All in all, it's a busy but fun schedule! It's so exciting to see her trying new things and her reactions!
