Rolling over, big smiles, and starting formula!

A lot has happened in the past few weeks! Mia started rolling over from her back onto her stomach on July 9, 2009. Only 2 days after she turned 3 months old! She favors her left side, and turns onto her left side before flipping over onto her stomach. Sometimes she does it in just mere seconds! She's so advanced! ; ) She now loves rolling over as soon as I put her down on her back on either a blanket on the floor, or her activity gym mat or in her crib! She also just rolled from her stomach onto her back for the first time today! But she still needs more practice on that move in order to do it frequently. Only the one time for now! But still so amazing to see!
She is also smiling SO much now, and laughing the most adorable little laughs ever!!!! Her smiles are just so heart melting, big big smiles and she has dimples in both cheeks! I also wanted to mention that sometimes when she is sleeping, she will let out this little snicker with a smile (she's been doing this since she was only a couple weeks old). It's really funny to see! It's usually right after she is done nursing and dozes off to sleep.....speaking of nursing, I will soon be drastically decreasing the number of times I'll be able to breastfeed her because I'm returning to work next week. We started her on a small amount of formula 3 nights ago to see how she would do. We gave her 2 oz. of formula the first night and then gave her 3 oz. of breastmilk to finish off the feeding. She did just fine -- no problems at all. The second night we did the same thing. Last night we gave her 4 oz. of formula as her last feeding before bed. She slept fine, same as usual, averaging 6.5 hours of sleep a night. But, this morning she woke up at 6:15am and was covered in poop! All over her onesie, her sheets and mattress! Not sure if it has anything to do w/ the formula feeding and the different digestion from the night before! Tonight we gave her 2 oz. of formula early in the evening when my mom was here, and then Matt gave her 2 more oz. before bed. I then had to nurse her so she would fall asleep after that. I guess what we'll do when she starts daycare is have her take 3 bottles of either breastmilk or formula while she is at daycare and I'll nurse her before I drop her off in the morning and after I get home from work in the evening and then one more time before bedtime. I plan on pumping 2 or 3 times a day at work in order to make bottles for the following day at daycare. We'll see how that goes and how my supply is affected by going back to work. Hopefully it'll be fine and I'll be able to pump enough each day for 2 or 3 bottles for the next day's bottles for daycare. And supplement with some formula if there is a need.
Another recent issue that's come up is Mia's weight. She is now gaining weight great but a couple weeks ago was not doing so good in this department. I've been weighing her on the baby scale that they have at the mothers' group I go to on Tuesdays. She's always been weighed there with her clothes and diaper on. Only the last few times I changed her diaper right before we weighed her so that a wet heavy diaper wouldn't affect the weight.
Her weight over the last few weeks is as follows:
10 lbs 6 oz - 6/23/09
10 lbs 7.7 oz - 7/07/09
10 lbs 4.4 oz - 7/14/09
10 lbs 9.2 oz - 7/16/09
10 lbs 15.1 oz - 7/21/09

Basically to get her gaining an ounce a day again I just started feeding her more often during the days and waking her up to eat if she is napping if it's been 3 hours between feedings. I also tried pumping after a nursing session and feeding her whatever I was able to pump immediately afterwards per the suggestion of the lactation consultant. But that got way too time consuming (nurse for 20-30 minutes, then set up the pump, pump for 10 minutes, then feed her that milk in a bottle!) so I just feed her more often instead. Sometimes she goes a little longer than 3 hours which is fine. I think I was letting her go too long between feedings several weeks ago, like 4 or 5 hours during the day and that was obviously not helping the weight gain. I think she was also going through a growth spurt as well and needed to eat more frequently anyways. So now I'm consciously trying to feed her at least 6 times a day. I'm sure she'll be fine going back down to 5 times a day in a little while. We'll see how things go.....I can't believe she is finally less than one ounce away from being 11 pounds!!!! Still on the small side but cute as can be! And many people are saying that it looks like her eyes may stay blue since they are a very blue color at this point! There are so many more exciting things that will be happening over the next weeks and months......it's all just amazing and oh so much fun! Matt and I love her more than anything in the world. It's truly an awesome feeling to have a child.
