I forgot to mention in my last blog update (3 months ago, woops) that Mia has begun potty training.....in a very inconsistent manner. That is of course both her father and my faults. We are not consistent in the training but rather let Mia lead the way. She has been able to tell us when she has to pee in the potty for a while now and has started going several times a day successfully over the last few months. She'll even go in the bathroom herself, take her pants and diaper off herself and go. She has been getting a "snowman's body" aka a mini marshmallow as a treat for going in the potty. She's the one who termed the marshmallows "snowmans' bodies" as she thinks they resemble them! We were hysterical, and it's actually true! Recently, she's been peeing so frequently in the potty that the mere act is rewarding for her and she almost never asks for the treat anymore. She also likes to wear "Pull ups" but I don't let her wear them all the time since she is still peeing in them a lot and not asking to use the potty 100% of the time. Again, my fault for not consistently (every 20 min!) leading her in the bathroom or reminding her to try.
It's a whole other story with going #2, which she refuses to do on the potty at this point. No matter what I promise her or entice her with to go in the potty, she will squat in the corner and say to me "mama, go away! I'm pooping in my diaper". She gets very upset if someone is watching her and always looks for a hidden corner or behind something to squat and do her business. It's kinda funny but also frustrating that she knows she is about to go #2 but refuses to sit on the potty despite being told how "grown up and big girl" it is and that "mommy and daddy will be so happy and excited!" We've also tried to encourage her with every possible reward in the book but she's not having it.....not yet at least.....
The "pee pee in the potty" has been going quite well and I'm sure she'd be completely potty trained on doing #1 at this point if I was more consistent in reminders, rewards, etc. It's just that we are frequently out and about and it's really difficult to commit to such a thing. But I have promised to do so this summer. And summer is basically here....so, we'll see how it goes! I do have to add though, that she has gone potty on two different friends' toilets, another friend's daughter's potty, and last week she went pee on the toilet in the YMCA locker room! Yay! ; )
