Mia had her 9 month check up on Thursday. While I was getting us ready to leave, I put Mia down on the bedroom floor to get ready. Usually I put her down in a sitting position, but today she put her legs out straight and when I let go, she just stood on her own! This is the first time she did this and it was very exciting! She's been able to stand on her own for a few seconds when she takes her hands off of whatever she's been supporting herself on, but this time she stood all by herself from the start! She did it two more times at the doctor's office to show off to the nurse! She's getting more and more comfortable standing for longer periods of time over the last couple days. Her pediatrician told us she thinks Mia will be walking by 10 months. Mia weighs 16 lbs 8 oz (20th percentile) and is 28.5 inches tall (75th percentile). She takes after her father in the height department. She is still very small and will continue to be as she is constantly moving and burning calories! The doctor agreed with me on that one. Mia also got her first blood test to check for anemia and lead (routine at 9 months) and also got her Hep B #3 shot and her 2nd dose of the H1N1 shot. She didn't even flinch with the blood test, just looked in fascination at the nurse squeezing her finger to get the blood in a vial. She did cry a little bit from the two shots but quickly stopped when I picked her up for a bit and comforted her.
Most recently, Mia has been on an amazing sleep schedule at night. She sleeps an average of 10 to 12 hours a night. Over the last couple weeks she has been tolerant of being put down in her crib while awake and does not cry! We can hear her playing and making noises on the monitor for about 15-20 minutes after being put down and then silence - she falls asleep on her own now! It really makes the bedtime routine so much easier. After feeding her dinner (some sort of veggie), we just change her diaper, put her in a warm sleeper, read her two bedtime stories and give her a bottle of formula (sometimes there are a couple ounces of breastmilk mixed in but at this point I'm making next to nothing, although I'm still pumping once a day at work and nursing her about once or twice a day). After she finishes her bottle, Matt or I will bring her into her room, set her down in the crib and walk out. The first couple nights we did this, we could NOT believe that she didn't cry when we walked out! Now we are used to this routine. It's wonderful! She's just an amazing baby. Love her with all our heart!
