A lot has happened over the last 12 weeks! Mia was born on April 7, 2009, at 9:10am via C-section weighing 6 lbs, 12 oz and 19 inches long. Since she was breech for the last 8 weeks or so of my pregnancy, my doctor scheduled the C-section for 9 days before my due date since apparently that is what they do when they have to schedule one. She told me they can't schedule them for the week of the due date since I could go into labor being that close to the due date. All went well the morning of my surgery and our beautiful daughter came into the world with a healthy little cry! I had a great experience in the maternity ward of Beverly Hospital and really appreciated the care I received from the nurses there! We were discharged home on April 11, 2009. My recovery went very well and about 2 weeks after Mia was born, I was feeling pretty good physically.
Many milestones have occurred over the last 12 weeks. Mia started sitting in her Bumbo chair about 2 or 3 weeks ago and loves it! A few weeks ago she also began smiling at us when we sing, talk or make noises. She also laughs! It's the most adorable thing I have ever seen and heard! We started having Mia sleep in her own room in her co-sleeper on Saturday, June 20, 2009 when she was about 10.5 weeks old. She has been doing well in there, sleeping on average 5 to 6 hours a night. Last night she even slept 6.5 hours!!! She has also become quite vocal recently and loves to squeal, shriek, ooh, aah and say "ah-goo". It's so funny and cute!
I am still nursing her and Matt will give her a bottle of pumped milk once a day, usually her last feeding before she goes to sleep for the night. I used to feed her on average 8 times a day, but now she is down to 5 or 6 times a day! She has also stopped waking in the night for feedings, this stopped about 4 or 5 weeks ago! At her last doctor's appointment, which was her 2 month check up, she weighed 9 lbs, 7 oz. She got her first series of immunizations too, one was a liquid given orally and the other 3 were shots in her poor little thighs! She did scream when she was injected but then stopped after 30 seconds or so and feel into a deep asleep. She slept for the rest of the day and night, only waking to feed and also laugh and smile when my mother came over to visit that day! I'm so happy she did not have any irritability or fever from the immunizations! Hopefully her 4 month check up will go the same way.
I also weighed Mia at the Tuesday Mothers' Group last week and she weighed 10 lbs, 6 oz. that day. She's gaining weight very well!
Oh another exciting event was when she found her thumb all by herself two times this past Friday, June 26th. It was the cutest thing!
Right now daddy is playing with Mia and she is smiling so much and cooing! It's so fun to watch her interact with both of us!
These are definitely the best times of our lives and we are really enjoying our little bundle! More updates to come as I remember and of course as they continue to occur!
